Apostolic Worship
‘Apostolic Worship’. That is not a phrase that you may have heard before. What is this about? In May last year I was speaking in Denmark, and I had an unusual phrase come to me: Apostolic worship. I do not have any background in worship and so I prayed and journalled about the meaning.
What is apostolic? What has worship got to do with it? I don’t have an answer, but I hope to gather those who can talk together and hear what the Spirit is saying about His purpose for worship.
I have been part of apostolic teams for decades and thankful for that, but also aware that much of the decision-making came from leaders, hearing and sensing a vision or call, and then acting on it. Worship was something that was valued - but external to strategic decision-making contexts.
As I prayed and listened to the Lord about what ‘apostolic worship’ means, I saw those who carry an authority in the area of worship which is governmental, way beyond any sound or word expression of worship as we know it; those who have strategic insight, who fear the Lord and, because of their heart and mind of worship, can see what the Spirit is revealing. They have a building capacity, and the Lord wants their contribution to be part of His governmental decision-making forums on earth.
Those with an apostolic and worship mandate will bring a unique and specific contribution to decision making, carrying worship in who they are and bringing their contribution as they see and respond from a different perspective. When an apostolic worship leader comes into a strategic context it brings a different spirit to decision-making, bringing a whole new dimension to five-fold leadership: strategic/apostolic decision making in the context of worship and revelation. (I use the word leader to mean carrying authority in a wider context, not necessarily leading in a meeting.)
Worship leading carries a specific authority and anointing which has power to lead, build, guide, challenge, direct, even correct people to bring them into a place and position that the Lord has for them.
Isaiah 6- His government is always increasing. His government is about His Kingdom being established and it is also established in the praises of His people – Psalm 22:3. Worship brings people into His presence and a place where they are with Him, and He is with them. In that place they can receive what is needed, transformation, anointing, preparation, so many things. His people are empowered to be and do what He has for them in their time. They go out with joy.
